Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I Expect?

The process typically starts with an initial consultation to assess your needs and strategize a plan. Organizing is about solving problems. During this consultation, you will describe what is and is not working for you and we will come up with a plan for working together. By the end of the consultation, we will have good insight to approximate the time and supplies needed to accomplish your goals and establish a manageable plan of action. Developing organizational systems customized to you will encourage greater efficiency, less anxiety, and a shift from managing stuff to living life. Your organizational consultant will be there to help guide, motivate, support, and encourage you in the process so you can find more room to breathe.

How we work together will depend on the type of project and guidance you need. Most in-home projects will start with hands-on, side-by-side work via sessions in your home. There are decisions that only you can make regarding what belongings to keep or what routines you follow or what values you want to instill in your home. By working side-by-side, you have the opportunity to learn organization techniques that can help you maintain the systems once we are gone.

However, there may be some types of projects (e.g., move out or move in preparation, habits & routines, etc.) where your organizational consultant can work independently during the intermediary steps of the process, maintaining communication along the way, and coming back together at the end to discuss next steps, implementation and/or maintenance.

Session time can be utilized however you choose — organizing, instruction, strategizing a plan to be executed during or after sessions, etc. Offering you some work to be completed between sessions is always an option if you desire a budget-conscious/self-paced approach.

How Long Does It Take?

Each client is as unique as their space/life and each project varies according to factors such as level of involvement, size, and complexity. Some clients prefer to have all organizing tasks done during session times and others prefer to complete tasks on their own between sessions. We will set up a plan based on rough estimates of time/task and adjust as needed.

Organizational services and guidance can be for as long as you want or need it to be. Some clients will get what they need from two or three sessions ... some will meet with a consultant every other week for several months ... some will have a refresher session once per quarter for years on end. It's entirely up to you.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost for all services is based on consultant time for the project. Each service has various pricing packages available as well as pay-as-you-go options. For more information about pricing for each service, see the following:

What about COVID?

More Breathing Room closely follows all CDC guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19 and all its variants. Any clients that feel ill or suspect exposure to COVID should contact us to reschedule their session.

What is a Virtual Organizing Session?

Virtual Organizing sessions offer the same organizing services through a different mode of communication. Virtual sessions do not have the same requirements for minimum hours scheduled per session. Typically, most sessions will be scheduled in 2 hour blocks, with 1 hour of online organizing and 1 hour completing assignments on your own with email follow-up.

Are Organizing Bins and Other Supplies Included?

Organizational supplies can be personal to each space. You can repurpose/reuse existing containers or new containers,/shelving/binders/moving boxes may be recommended during sessions if existing ones are not sufficient. You can choose if …

a) DIY: you would like to purchase organizing supplies yourself based on a few ideas given by the consultant,

b) SHOP DATE: you would like to go shopping together (online or in person) as part of your session time, or

c) CONCIERGE: you would prefer shopping concierge services with costs for consultant time and supplies added to the invoice and items delivered directly to you for use in our sessions.

All costs associated with supplies and the consultant’s time are the client’s responsibility.

What If I Am Not Ready To Part With My Things?

In organizing sessions, you will maintain control of discarding, sorting, and organizing all your belongings. Your organizational consultant will always be there to remind you of your goals and ask you questions about an item’s use, function, sentimentality, etc., but the final decision to discard items will always remain with you. Similarly, where to discard items you no longer need is also up to you. We can offer suggestions of organizations that align with your values — whether those be non-profits, recycling services, consignment shops, or loved ones.

What If My Space Is A Mess?

Don’t worry. I prefer to see your space/life in its natural state without tidying or editing. This helps me see how you arrived at your current situation more clearly so we can create meaningful solutions that will work best for you and which you can maintain.
