Upgraded Laundry Closet

Where we do our laundry and store our cleaning supplies does not necessarily have to be pretty … but why not? This client had always hated their wire shelves and now they were starting to come loose from the wall, so it was time to take them down and start fresh. This was an opportunity to add more shelves, re-organize the storage, and upgrade the overall look.

For the bins, we gave each type of household item stored in this closet a “home” in a labeled bin. That way, it is easy to see what items are low in stock and need to be purchased. Also, the bins create a system of containing an appropriate amount of supplies so as to prevent over-buying. (Better to let the stores store the items you need rather than your home become over-stuffed!)

Here’s how we organized each shelf:

  • Bottom Shelf: Front and center is a turntable with the most frequesntly used cleaners as well as bins for cleaning rags, dusters, and garbage bags. Laundry soap is placed above the washer and a bin for dryer balls above the dryer. A bin with extra batteries is also here.

  • Middle Shelf: All specialty cleaners, refill items, cleaning tools, and paper towels are made accessible. The bins with handles make it easy to pull each one down individually to access what you need.

  • Top Shelf: Here we stored extra paper towels and less frequently used items, such as vacuum accessories, filters, and an extra mop bucket.
